There are a whole range of activities around VT to keep you entertained during your stay in and around Veliko Turnovo. Whether you are looking for action or something rather more sedate there is something for you; as a family or as an individual traveler!
Here we offer you just a taste of some of the activities available, in time we will add more detail to help you with planning some of these activities during your stay.
Hiking There are numerous eco-trails that have been developed around the VT region. The superb Emen Canyon is a perfect place to spend a day hiking, alternatively check out the eco-trails surrounding Dryanovo Monastery.

Wine Tasting
Bulgaria is renowned for its fine wine. Spend a day wine tasting at one of the vineyards that are dotted around the region. You can organise group tours at the vineyard in Lyaskovets, just a few kilometers east of VT.

Rock Climbing The VT region hosts national climbing competitions and is known to have some of the best climbing opportunities in the whole of Bulgaria. There are challenges suitable for all experience levels and instruction can be arranged. If you don’t fancy all the effort of climbing up, have a go at abseiling down!

Mountain Biking
If you’re not encouraged by the idea of tackling those eco-trails by foot, why not have a go by mountain bike. Mountain bikes are available for hire in various locations and you should be able to find some terrain to match your stamina levels!

Fishing
Spend a day relaxing by one of the many well stocked lakes surrounding Veliko Turnovo. However, remember that you will need to purchase a license before you start any fishing in Bulgaria!

Horse Riding
If riding a horse is more up your street than a bike there are some excellent opportunities around VT. There are stables available in the village of Arbanassi for day trips, or there are other residential alternatives if you want to involve a little more horse riding in Bulgaria during your stay.

Skiing
There is some skiing available in the VT region during the winter months. The small resort of Uzana is ideal for a couple of days skiing during your visit. It may not keep advanced skiers occupied for long but it is a perfect place to learn a new skill or let the kids have their first go!

Spa Treatment
After trying out some or all of these activities why not treat yourself to some relaxing spa treatment at one of the centers springing up around VT; you could even try a traditional Bulgarian mud healing session.
